Getting into the swing of things

I have found that I am an all or nothing type of person. Meaning, when I make big life changes (i.e. new job, moving) I need to go ahead and make other changes at the same time before I get into the routine of the new situation. So I started working out of my new office in Knoxville two weeks ago and I went ahead and joined a gym. I did some soul and time searching and realized that the only time I could faithfully go to the gym was first thing in the morning before work on days that my husband can get Fisher up and to daycare. So this past week I woke up at 5:15 and headed to the gym on Monday and Tuesday. I was shocked at how great I felt afterwards and all day! I am sold on the morning workouts once again (I used to work out first thing in the morning pre childbirth) and I am already looking forward to it this week.
I think part of it is waking up before anyone in my house, quitely getting dressed, and then slipping out of the door unnoticed. And once I am out the door, I am FREE! I go to the gym, work out, take a shower, grab some coffee, and then head to work. I feel refreshed, awake and ready to knock out the day.
In not so good news, my son got the flu this week. I have never had the flu, but I can tell you that the flu in a 1.5 year old is not fun. I feel so bad for him, he has been sick with a high temperature since Wednesday. I took Wed, Thurs, and Fri off work to stay home with him because my husband was out of town teaching. However, when my husband got back Friday - I hit the gym! And I also worked out Saturday. I am proud to say that I got four, hour long workouts in the week even while playing single mom and dealing with the flu. Go me.
I started the Couch to 10K program. I have done the Couch to 5K before, and it was awesome. I went from barely running 1 minute to being able to run a 5K, and then I went on and was able to run for an hour straight! I don't run fast, I enjoy jogging, so jogging an hour is my goal.
So this is my workout plan for this week -
Sunday - Couch to 10K, Week 2, day 1
Monday - Couch to 10K, Week 2, day 2
Tuesday- Weight lifting
Wednesday - Couch 10 10 K, Week 3, day 3
Thursday - Weight lifting
Friday- day off
Saturday- traveling, will try to walk

One of the bad things about getting up at 5:15 to workout is that I have been in bed by 9 most nights! Which makes getting to Mamavation TV difficult on Mondays as I am long asleep by the time it starts :( I hate it, but if I am up I will try to make it!
Are you a sweet or savory snacker? What do you look for in a healthy snack?
I am a sweet and savory snacker! It depends on the time of day. I like savory stuff during the day and sweet at night. For a healthy snack, I try to find things that are super filling and won't leave me looking for more!
Thanks to Orville Redenbacher's Gormet Popcorn for sponsering this week's Mamavation Monday!
I hope you all have a great week!

  1. Sorry to hear your little guy had the flu. It is no fun with sick kiddos to take care of.

So happy to hear you are getting into the gym. I agree that getting away free is the hardest part. I have been trying to get up earlier, but my daughter can hear anything! She wants up and wants me to hold her. Keep it up. I can't wait to hear your progress with the 10K.

    Have a great week!

  2. My son had the tummy bug this week. No fun! Sounds like you have a good plan for the week ahead. Have fun!

  3. Oh I hate the tummy bug, currently we have the bad cough which I'm thinking will end up with either fever or the flu. Really hoping not though. Hope your little guy is feeling better though. The flu is never fun. Glad to hear you figured out a great time to workout, my favorite is morning too, even though I do it here at the house. I learned if I don't do it in the morning I never do it. Have a great week.

  4. I think I am a lot like you...all or nothing. Congrats on the move and the early am workout plans. We finally make our final move next month..I can't wait to set up a plan and be able to follow through.
I can't believe you are working on the 10K plan now! Great job. Hope your son is doing much better now.

  5. Yay for morning workouts! And it's SO true- if I'm an early bird, then I can't be a night owl too. Gotta pick your poison I suppose.

Great week! Hope your boy feels better soon.

  6. So awesome that you did 5K. I cannot believe it. And now 10K? Erin, I think you've done so much this year. I hope you're enjoying your new place and I Fish is getting better. Looking forward to seeing more of you.
P.S. I am so jealous of your running program, but mostly happy for u

  7. you have an amazing running program I am with Lena and jealous! great job and with a sick kid wonderful!

  8. ok, having computer issues so if this is a duplicate, feel free to delete it... just in case it didn't post, I want you to know I'm so proud of you! You are doing fantastic!! Keep it up!

  9. I should clarify that I did 5Ks before I got pregnant, had my son, and had many complications from it. I am trying to get back in shape and thought I might as well train for a 10K. lol

  10. Sorry to hear about your little one, having a baby be ill is so hard! I hope he feels better soon.
Counch to 10K? Wow, that's great! I still at the point where I can't even fathom running to the end of the street! lol
    Have a great week!
